Regular asymptomatic COVID-19 testing paused in England
Following a recommendation from the UK Health Security Agency, regular asymptomatic COVID-19 testing of NHS staff in England has been paused. Testing of staff and patients with symptoms will continue.

The decision was made in response to falling cases of COVID-19 infections. We have expressed concerns about these changes and called for them to be based on clinical risk and not costs.

Guidance from NHS England suggests that asymptomatic testing should still be carried out for staff who may be at risk of serious illness from COVID-19 and encourages employers to involve safety representatives in local arrangements.
