Thursday, 19th May, UNISON is offering a whole day full of free learning opportunities as part of Learning at Work week with six incredible sessions that you can book yourself a place on.
Creative Upcycling & Recycling
10:00 – 12:00
During this workshop we will be upcycling an old t-shirt. To take part in this craft session you will need the following:

  • An old t-shirt
  • Scrap fabrics
  • Sewing needle
  • Threads
  • Scissors
  • Buttons, beads and sequins (optional)

Coping with Change
12:30 – 14:30
This course helps people to identify the changes they may be facing both within and outside the workplace and develop a range of strategies to cope with those changes. This will include identifying strengths and weaknesses, learning coping strategies, developing personal action plans and practising interviewing techniques.

This session, led by our very own Natalie Chadwick, explores the importance of lifelong learning and how to initiate and support lifelong learning as individuals and in our workplaces.

Natalie will also discuss how to share the learning work that we do at UNISON South West.

Supporting your Mental Health with Mindfulness

Karen Atkinson from Mindfulness UK will be running a 2-hour introductory session to mindfulness.
  • Explore the benefits to mindfulness to aid your mental health
  • Learn more about mindfulness
  • Take home mindfulness techniques to aid everyday life

Assertiveness Taster Session
18:30 – 20:00

A taster session that will explore reasons for low confidence and self esteem and highlight the factors which influence both.

Explore the different types of behaviour including passive, aggressive and passive-aggressive. Look at assertive behaviour in a range of situations, including saying no and asking for what they want. Learners will discuss negative thinking styles and use positive language in difficult situations
